93 Worth Street

When a young family approached us to design their new home in this former factory building that dated to 1924, we knew we wanted to preserve the building’s sense of history and character. Playing on the exposed brick and industrial beams, we encased 21-foot high plumbing risers — an unexpected surprise when we removed the walls around them— with stacked, twisting reclaimed wood that allowed the residence’s ample natural light to flood into the next room. This architectural detail became one of our favorite elements in this family’s comfortable home, reminding us that design challenges often provoke creative solutions.
